Church History Volume 1

Volume 1

Introduction

And after many days an angel of the Lord appeared unto Adam, saying: Why doest thou offer sacrifices unto the Lord? And Adam said unto him: I know not, save the Lord commanded me. And the angel spake, saying: This thing is a similitude of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten of the Father, which is full of grace and truth. Wherefore, thou shalt do all that thou doest in the name of the Son, and thou shalt repent and call upon God in the name of the Son for evermore. (Moses 5;6-8)

As the Gospel was thus preached there were those among the children of Adam who obeyed it, and a record of those men was kept, and they constituted the ancient Church of God. Enoch was of the number of righteous ones, and a preacher of righteousness.

Joseph Smith

Joseph Smith's Seven Patterns of Prayer

See Meridian Magazine site:

  1. Know our absolute dependence on the Lord (Ex. First Vision)
  2. Weary the Lord until He blesses you (Luke 18:1-5)
  3. Join the faith of others in obtaining powerful blessings (Joseph and Hyrum suffering from Cholera)
  4. Pray for something better (Joseph's prayer for the Johnny cake, and he prayed for something better. Before they finished eating the Johny cake, a man came by and gave them flour and a ham. Joseph said, "I knew the Lord would answer my prayer.")
                         Read about this prayer

5. Come to know God so well that you really know to whom you are praying (Learn God's character, His will for us, and the faith that He actually exists.

6. Knowing beforehand you will obtain your answer--exercising great faith.

7.Cry from the depths of your soul (100% perfectly honest)

Across Iowa, 1846

The beginning of the great trek west really commenced 1 March 1846 on the frozen banks of Sugar Creek in Lee County, Iowa, seven miles west of the Mississippi River. On that day approximately three thousand men, women, and children in about five hundred wagons formally abandoned Nauvoo, Illinois, the City of Joseph, as a result of misunderstandings and mob activities.

Melchizedek / Aaronic Priesthoods

DC 107:18-20
18 The power and authority of the higher, or Melchizedek Priesthood, is to hold the keys of all the spiritual blessings of the church--

19 To have the privilege of receiving the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, to have the heavens opened unto them, to commune with the general assembly and church of the Firstborn, and to enjoy the communion and presence of God the Father, and Jesus the mediator of the new covenant.

20 The power and authority of the lesser, or Aaronic Priesthood, is to hold the keys of the ministering of angels, and to administer in outward ordinances, the letter of the gospel, the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, agreeable to the covenants and commandments.
